Your "cross" is God's will for you, regardless of the cost. Taking up your cross is a choice; it is not beyond your control. You may have health problems [etc]...[but] [y]our cross will be to voluntarily participate in Christ's sufferings as He carries out His redemptive purposes.

People often consider the "cross" we bear to be linked concretely with "sin" So let us first delve into that idea.
First off, while He allows suffering as a cost of sin/being surrounded by sin...I still do not think it is His will. He created a Paradise, one where He walked beside us!
We picked this for ourselves generations ago, and each consecutive sinful generation adds to it. For there is a verse that speaks on the sin of a generation following 4 generations down. (By contrast, the blessings go even more generations down---I believe 17 generations, but not positive).
But my main focus tonight is on the cross we bear. We miss something when we think of picking up our cross. We think that we will just keep walking with this burden; musn't let ourselves be tired by it. Just stand strong like good little soldiers. Those are the things we tell ourselves and everyone else. If we do not stand up perfectly under these conditions, we are BAD Christians.
Everyone has something horrible to face---something horrible to them. We either handle this by continuing along the same path as before; change paths to try something "better"; the change of "destruction" by drugs or even suicide.
These choices will likely end up with the person in a worse spot than before--the death/drugs or the total "nervous breakdown". Why?
The difference is this: If we chose to ask God for the strength we need to actually go on, rather than flounder about like a dying fish, I believe then, and only then, are we truly carrying our crosses.
He, Himself, when facing crucifixion, had another man carrying His cross. We are to be yoked to Him, remember? For His yoke is light and easy.
We make it seem like we do need to carry this cross given to us alone---but the biggest "deny himself" I have found in humans is three fold: admit he has a problem, admit he needs help...and admit HE IS NOT A GOD!
We are supposed to have God. We are fooling ourselves to think we can carry any cross alone. So yes. Admit needing help. Admit you need God, get off of His throne. Ask for that help. Become yoked with the Lord. Come with Him, go where He goes. From my couch bed to days I can do all...it is an amazing view to be yoked side by side, carrying one's cross with Him. Without Him, without that yoked teamwork, all ends quickly in despair.

Col 1:15-19
15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him
