Knows and Cares

"But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come." Jn 16.13

"So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy." Jn 16.22

Knowing the truth, knowing what is right before God, is a sort of joy. Realizing and repenting of mistakes, knowing His great love and sacrifice covers the horrors of sin is indeed a type of joy. God knows us so intimately. If He was willing to die, taking the full punishment for my sins, not even considering others' for a moment, is indeed a type of love indescribable. Now consider the generations upon generations upon generations of sin that He willing covered. 
I adore the song He Is Alive by Don Fransisco. There is a line that says something about darkness falling, as if no one was allowed to witness what was happening to this man...another line describes the agonies, sins and illnesses of every man who was and ever will being apparent on Him.
If the Lord of All was indeed willing to do such a thing as a free gift, why should we then accuse Him of being stingy? We weren't healed from some disease. Neither was every person when He walked the earth from the suggestions of solid authors. It is mentioned at the last verse in John that if everything Jesus did was written down, not enough books in the world could hold the information...but I think if He had healed everyone in Judea, there would have been a mass exodus from all countries who could rushing towards Him. I would further assume Pilate would have protected Him like the golden goose, rather than finally succumbing to the chants of the Jews to crucify Him. 

We are given another glorious gift. The Spirit. The Counselor. We have the great ability to feel God's presence at all times. This is not something that always was...from what I have noted it was a very special, incredible thing to be filled with the Spirit in the Old Testament. We sadly neglect Him now, taking for some granted the fact we have this great Guide---One who boils slightly and more if we begin to not heed His warning. We can silence the Spirit...by insisting on sinning. And then we begin to wonder why God has shunned us. 

The last verse i listed. This context is for the disciples just before Jesus ascends to heaven. But I think it makes sense for now and today. It is a time of grief. We, though few of us have seen Him, mourn the fact we are not with Him. We face terrible things---sometimes, depending on where we live, similar to the apostles. We grieve this life, and with good cause. 

Yet one day, one wonderful day, we won't even be in the constraints of time. We will be with Him, our hearts near to bursting. At that point...oh my.  Nothing will ever steal our joy away. And those wonderful words those words I've been aching to hear my entire Christian life: "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
