Col 1:15-19
15
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him

Best Thing

More Precious than Silver, J.E. Tada

Have you noticed that we treat a person or an object sentimentally because of emotiion, not reason? [We have] the sentimental pictures of Jesus, sentimental hymns about Him. I know those thoughts can comfort us. But they are more reinforcement of a romanticized image. We have guilded the real Jesus with so much "dew on the roses"that many people have lost touch with Him. Why do we prefer a sentimentalized picture? It requires nothing of us, neither conviction nor commitment. Because it lacks truth, it lacks power. Erase the images of syrupy sweetness. Replace them with the mental picture of a powerful God who overcame the harshest foe---death itself. Then you will begin to grasp how amazing God is.

Somehow I don't exactly agree...I would agree that some images stated, shown and acted by believers are not "right" in showing God...but He is, after all, the Great Shepherd.
Sheep can be timid creatures, ones that need a gentle touch. And sheep can be stubborn creatures that need a harsh touch. It all depends on the certain sheep. I imagine the same is true with us.
I have always seen God as a kind being, but one that radiates so much power, strength and love as to almost be devastating. Indescribable, really. But so amazing that no "picture" painted by man, described by man can even come close to Him. Think of the descriptions of His very throne...it is really rather a picture that cannot be imagined, and that is only His throne!
The thing to remember is that God is an amazing God, He loves us beyond description...and He is always there for you, so long as you open  the door for Him
