God is looking for imperfect men and women who have learned to walk in moment-by-moment dependence on the Holy Spirit. Christians who have come to terms with their inadequacies, fears and failures.
Growing up, graduating, marriage---none of these good things serve as the key to the abundant life we long for.

Learning to walk moment-by-moment with dependence on the Holy Spirit. That is a hard one to reach, and it is a hard one to maintain. There are days I do that and days I do not reach such standards. I have found, though, that the hardest, more horrible trials are the ones that make it the easiest. At that point, we are humble enough to rely fully on God. We will rely on Him at that point for life from cancer, treatment for a broken back, and help when friends turn.
Most of the time, with the help of evil ones showing us the "bright" part of worldly things...we believe we are mini-gods (or even just gods). Not in so many words, of course, but we begin to think we run the world. We pick out a career, spouse, home, pets, every little thing. It is not until nothing goes purely sideways and off the rail that we realize we are not gods. 
People then ask, why does He allow even that? Why can't we just stay at the happy point in life? 
Because, years ago...we said that having that was not enough. We wanted more. So we took that chance and ever since then, we do our best to get what we had back. Most people I run into use the 'if I am good most of the time, I will be just fine in God's eyes.'
No...not unless you accept the Son as Lord and Savior. 
Even after doing that...we still want to run around like little gods and rule the world. 
It just does not work well that way. There is so much more stress and unhappiness when you and I try to rule our lives, and is infinitely happier, even in the hardest of times...to let the Lord and Savior be God of us all.
