In the Same Direction

^{Gen 5.22} After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters.
The other men merely lived. Enoch walked with God. 
How is "walking" with God different than "living out" your allotted years? One thing is immediately clear. We must go in the same direction....He invites me to join Him. He will not go with me on my side trips. Agreeing to join Him requires that every ambition in my heart becomes secondary Christ.

Perhaps another reason why we feel that God is far from us. It is not that He is, but because we took our own path, we are on opposite sides of a canyon....and until we are willing to walk across a rope bridge (admit that we need help) to get back on the other side. Without being desperate enough to run across that bridge, leaving behind the wolves we were fighting, into the arms of our Father,  we will simply face more and worsening "animals" to fight. We will continue to feel alone because we are not willing to state that we cannot do things ourselves in this world, and we are in the wrong. 
Enoch fascinates me because of the fact that he did not die but was caught up in heaven---a rapture if you will. He must have been so totally focused and dependent on God...more than most anyone else. I wonder what made him have that relationship, what drew him so close to God.
God wants to have a relationship with us, all of us. So often though, we act like those before us, all the way to the Garden. We push God away, saying through actions that we do not need Him. Nothing is further from the truth. We were created to be with God. Not only is our world horribly broken, but so is our own existence. Of course we cannot manage our lives! Broken world, broken existence. The best chance we have at life here until Paradise is to rely on God, and give up the idea that our plans are so wonderful. Our plans are not wonderful...quite frankly they are horrific ideas that either hurt us or hurt someone else. 
So let us reach out to God. Let us cry out, and run to His open arms across the canyon. Let us leave behind the things we think we should do and have for what is truly important---a relationship that is deep and meaningful with our great Lord and Father.
