Under Abba's Umbrella

I am loving how deep things get the more you find out about Hebrew tradition---how much deeper what Christ said 2000 year ago was, both for Jewish households, but for Roman ones as well. In our modern, Western society what is read is "nice" and "thoughtful", but leaves something missing. So, without further ado, lets delve deeply. 

As I have been learning in my Genesis Bible study, the head of household was in charge of those under him; it was he who was responsible for the behaviors, costs and sins of the people under his umbrella of care. For example, Genesis 17.9-14, which speaks first of circumcision of Abraham, and all of the men in Abraham's household---including slaves. In the opening story of Genesis, it is Adam who was questioned first as to the behaviors that had happened following the Fall. Then Eve. Then the Snake; also interesting is the fact that it is the man who was driven out of Eden (taking Eve with him). See Gen 3.8-24.NIV

Basically it is the same: responsible for legal duties etc. The head of household was the head. 

⁶ Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba,^[b] Father.” ⁷ So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir. Gal 4( NIV)

I think that this gives another reason why Christ had to die for our sins. He was the only perfect sacrifice, the end to that, giving us a permanent priest to act as intercessor between God and ourselves. 

²³ Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; ²⁴ but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. ²⁵ Therefore he is able to save completely^[a] those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. Heb 7NIV

He also had to die for us because He is the triune God, He is all three at once, and as such He had to provide a sacrifice for our sins---much as the head of household would provide a sin offering as required. He is our Father, our head of household.
Much as the High Priest provided a sin offering for the entire nation of Israel, so must have God as Christ, since He is our High Priest. Being God, being all of these things, He founded a way for our sins to be covered. 
Further, then, we should honor His effort by attempting, through His great strength, to lead holy, godly lives.
What is important here is how involved He really is in our lives. By being the head of our household (the church) and the head of our every day lives, we are under His umbrella, His great care. He will never leave us or forsake us.
