Col 1:15-19
15
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him

A Deeper Look at John 2.23-25

23 Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name.[d] 24 But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people. 25 He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person. John 2 NIV

All the signs that Christ did caught the attention of people--Passover was a busy time when everyone was congregated in one place. The people latched on to Him with the delight that we might see in the sudden following of a well loved new political figure, or super star actor or musician. How fast does the following for those people rise and fall? Some continue as long term followers, but most people seem to fall away from following the new superstars.
Christ had the added attraction of healings and other miraculous signs to the usual superstar following that we see today. (30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. John 20 NIV  )
He knew, though, that not all who followed Him and spoke of Him even believed that He was God. They were delighted in the excitement that He brought to light, but as much as we find the Disciples and others attempting to force Him into leading a revolution, they did not understand what God was really doing.
Christ understood man better than man understood himself. The Word often speaks of His seeing and knowing the heart of man, and we are certainly fickle, sinful creatures who want whatever we think it is we want when we want it. How many of us are leery about other people--those we first meet, or even those we know? How many people have disappointed us? Everyone will have in one aspect or another.
